Staged at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney tonight, 26 October, the Australian Independent Music Awards (AIMAs) have again celebrated and honoured a diverse, talented and industry-ready batch of indie artists.
The major award of Artist of the Year was won by Sydney-based musician Emma Mullings, who released her debut EP, ‘Skinny Roads’, earlier this year.
Other winners on the night were: Grandhour (Rock), Bozza (Urban), Esther Sparkes (Dance / Electronica) and PLGRMS (Alternative).
Founded to help ‘recognise, expose and support Australian musicians’, the AIMAs is run by The Musicoz Foundation whose mission is to have more songs locally written, produced, performed and listened to. [Industry fact: when Musicoz started in 2000, the 4 major music labels in this country only had 46 signed, Australian acts between them.]

From Bluejuice, Bliss N Eso and The Jezabels to Cog, Dallas Frasca and Blue King Brown, the AIMAs past winners are littered with a whose who of today’s current Australian music stars.
